Freqently Asked Questions

Taxes

Q: I live just outside Seligman and am paying a fire district tax. Why am I not covered by Seligman Fire District during a fire? What is the Fire District Assist tax?

A: The Fire District tax that you see on your tax bill is collected by Yavapai County and passed up to the State of Arizona. From there, it is divided up throughout the state as an allowance to fire departments to give fire coverage to state and county buildings such as schools, courthouses, etc. see example tax bills

Medical

Q: Does Seligman Fire charge for medical response to my home?

A: No. Seligman Fire does what it can to help neighbors in Seligman and surrounding neighborhoods during a medical emergency. Seligman Fire responds to medical emergencies with First Responders and/or EMT's until the ambulance arrives.

Q: What kind of emergencies are your EMT's prepared to handle?

A: Heart attacks, diabetic emergencies, respiratory emergencies, severe bleeding, shock, burns, automobile collisions, falls, baby delivery, etc.

Fire Coverage

Q: What are the Seligman Fire District boundaries?

A: Residents between the KOA and the Seligman air strip pay a Seligman FD tax on their property taxes (see example tax bills ). Any properties within Seligman town that are taxed, are covered by Seligman Fire. Any properties outside this area are not automatically covered.

Q: If I live outside the Seligman Fire District (ie. Bridge Canyon, Sierra Verde, etc) what are my fire coverage options?

A:

  1. If Seligman Fire responds to a structure fire on your property, Seligman Fire is required to charge you the same rate that Arizona State Land is charged for fire supression.
  2. If you have a subscription with Seligman Fire, all firefighting costs are waved in the case of a fire on your property. The subscription rate is similar to the amount taxpayers within the Seligman Fire District are charged each year.
  3. Grass fires, tree fires and brush fires are usually covered by Arizona State Land. We notify State Land immediately and they approve an order to put the fire out. If in the unexpected case that State Land doesn't approve, the property owner will be notified.

Q: Would Seligman Fire mind if the neighbors banded together to help keep the fire down?

A: Seligman Fire is not for profit. The smaller the fire is, the faster we can be in and out of there. However, we strongly insist that residents put their safety high above anything else; otherwise a fire emergency can turn into a medical emergency or worse.
Also, the property owner can elect to have Seligman Fire leave the scene once the flames are extinguished. Afterwards, the owners/neighbors can stay with the ashes and extinguish (mop up) any small fires that flare up.
